The Husband and Wife Artist Team |
|
They were 22 year old kids and met at the coffee machine in the Music Building at CSU Northridge. Dana had just come out of the computer music lab and Jeanne had decided to come out of her practice room for a lousy cup of machine coffee. "He asked me out... cooked me fabulous Chinese food and we've been together ever since." |

Jeanne has been designing greeting cards since she was about 3 years old ... using crayons at first... then pen, ink and watercolor as she got a little older. Her dad is a professional artist/sculptor and mom a wonderful chef and food writer. The family moved from California to Rome were she grew up with art and music, the sights and sounds, colors and aromas of Europe... seeing the opera ... the elephants on stage in Aida ...all made a huge impression on a very young girl. |
| In the 60's the family moved back to Hermosa Beach, California and Jeanne continued to draw and paint. She wrote poetry, hundreds of songs, sang, played piano and taught music to private students. The circle of renowned artists that frequented her family's famous home 'the Evans Villa' gave her continued inspiration. She loved to go to the mountains, go to concerts, swim or hang out at the beach... her part time job was at the local macramé shop. |
| Jeanne finished her music degree in Voice from CSUN in 1980, where she met husband, composer Dana Rosen. After getting married, she continued to perform and teach music... but found herself spending more time designing, painting and selling hand made cards to dozens of local stores. Dana's airline job gave the young couple the opportunity to travel... for almost 5 years they flew somewhere every month. |
| Through the 90's, Jeanne's design skills, creative and artistic energy blossomed and matured. For awhile, Jeanne Dana Cards became one of the most popular, unique, colorful, highest quality hand made card in the world. Their greeting card business continued to grow and their cards brought happiness and beauty to thousands of wonderful people everywhere. | |
Vegas ... 2008 |
With the growth of the internet came a steady decline in the use of greeting cards, sales plummeted and Jeanne Dana had to figure out what to do...something uniquely different. The best solution at the time was to recycle the paper scrap. The Jeanne Dana Paper Mill created hand made paper and envelopes, cast paper sculpture and paper mache on canvas all from old greeting card scraps. Plaster was added to the paper castings to make them more durable, innovative coloring and waterproofing techniques were used. More designs were created. The company name was changed to PaperAndStonetm and now in the 21st century, using 21st century materials, Jeanne Dana's art has evolved into something more architectural and very contemporary.... creating cast stone, cold bronze and marble sculpture, artwork and murals.
